Munnekezijl is located on the border of Groningen - Friesland, where the canal "De Lauwers" forms the border. Close to this border is "De Zijlsterkerk", which has been used by the reformed community from 1899 to 2021.

In 2022, the church was thoroughly renovated and given a new destination. The building has three modern double bed & breakfast rooms and a beautiful breakfast room. The old elements of the church building can be found in all rooms.

Munnekezijl is located on the edge of the Lauwersmeer National Park, where you can enjoy wonderful walking, cycling or water sports activities.

The adjacent village is Zoutkamp with a rich history of shrimp fishing. This is still available in various eateries on the pleasant boulevard.
